Dragon Fruit Farm - Sungei Pelek

Dragon fruit, also known as pitaya or strawberry pear, is a tropical fruit known for its vibrant red skin and sweet, seed-speckled pulp.

All Dragon fruits - White dragon fruit or Yellow Dragon fruit is native to the northern region of South America, which is the country of Colombia and Ecuador. The red Dragon fruit, we are seeing is a variation of the white Dragon fruits

The fruits are still cultivated there, with Colombia being the largest producer, and are exported all over the world. Dragon fruit is cultivated in Peru, Mexico and South Asia.,

Official name of this fruit is now Selenicereus undatus while pitahaya or dragon fruit is the common name of the fruit of the genus Selenicereus. It was formerly slotted under Hylocereus, both in the family Cactaceae.

We visited the Multi-Rich Pitaya Dragon Fruit Farm, which is more authentic and amidst the whole fields of plants. At the time of our visit, it was the lean session with very limited production. We spent more time in the farm looking looking at other plants

 12. Dragon Fruits out of season - Nothing to see!

We just hang around and take pictures

13.  Recognizing the Flowers:

Flower tips of the red variety are redder than those on the white variety.

At times, the white variety has white or yellow flower tips. Flowers are fragrant of both varieties. Due to high sweetness, many people prefer red fruit.

14.  White or Red flesh Dragon fruits?

The flesh of dragon fruit can vary from white (with pink or yellow skin) to hot pink or deep red with tiny black seeds. Flavor is associated with the color of the flesh: whitish dragon fruit often has a mild taste while darker, redder flesh can be sweeter and juicier. Red dragon fruit and sometimes pink and purple fruit have curvy scales or ears, which are tiny triangles on the fruit body. Their color is green and they are thicker. Also, red fruit has narrower, darker, and more scales than white fruit.

15.  Plants with immature fruits

The plants were quite productive seeing the good number of fruits hanging on to each cluster of plants

Souvenir of our visit

Though we had got so much less than what we expected, but we got to see what was needed.

Yeah It was a long drive to the border of Selangor State. It is not something we do when we were free. Rather this was the "Once in a blue moon" sort of outing trip. Even though it is still within the Selangor State but I can assure you that the drive is worth it. We got to see places that we heard or read about but never being there in person before.

Good trip
