The *Eurasian Hoopoe* is a distinctive bird known for its striking crown of feathers and broad distribution. Here’s where they are most commonly seen and their migration patterns:

Eurasian Hoopoes prefer *open habitats* which includes nearly all sorts open country land ranging from grasslands,: Savannas, orchards and vineyards which also include idle waste lands and parks

Hoopoes feed almost entirely solely on insects, anthropoids and invertebrates of various kinds, However they do also eat small reptiles, amphibians and mammals up to around 15 cm in length. The birds have long bills relative to there body size, which are around 5 cm. long. They use their bills to pry under leaves, barks and the earth surfaces in pursuit of food

This bird is hardly encountered in Malaysia. According to hearsay, the earliest record had it seen in the northern state of Kelantan and there adder no more sightings for decades. In the new millennium the bird was sighted farley frequent each in Penang and Kuala Gula, Of late there were two successful in the Taiping Lake Gardens

According to a survey published in August 2024 the Eurasia Hoopoe breeds the while year round along a belt pf land stretching from west Asia all the way to Eastern Asia The survey also confirmed that the bird was seen south of the of the Isthmus  just across the border in  southern Thailand border until Peninsula Malaysia is excluded

Hoopoes are often vilified as unclean and a foul stench is said to emanate from their nests, But in fact their nest holes are usually lined with pine needles or moss, and females fastidiously removed the chicks dropping like so many other mother birds do, Perhaps nesting females have resort to chemical warfare to fight of would0be predators

Cannot tell its preferred diet but the open environment says much about allowing the birds to show off its extraordinary features.
Migratory hoopoes return to Europe & Central Asia around **March–April*.
