Malaysian Birds

 Malayan Night-Heron

It's the Malayan Night Heron while there are those who are not sure called it Malaysian Night Heron. I also has not ascertain The countries where this bird was called "Tiger Bittern". A quick check mentioned that this bird could be spotted in a stretch of countries from India down to the Peninsular Malaysia> Of course, not forgetting Singapore which is the cross road for every birdies flying south. What prompted me to focus on this bird is its name. Malayan Night Heron! It is a Night-Heron alright, but those into birding keep asking -  how to meet up with this Malayan bird? No, you cannot find this bird here other than the few accidental sightings.  The Night-Heron is known to breed in India, the Andaman Area, northern Thailand, all across Indo-China to southern China and then over to the Palawan Islands. It's strongest presence would be in Northern Thailand, Indo-China and the Palawan Island. Otherwise, in all other places even where breeding could be taking place, this would be an uncommon bird to spot.

The Malayan Night-Heron is a nocturnal feeder though it does forages in daylight hours. One thing is for sure, though very secretive but on the contrary, when spotted, those I had met so far, were not a shy bird at all. The few occasions I met the bird I could take my leisure time to compose and collect pictures. Another sure fact I know, the birds likes waterway and with bamboo clumps as it's refuge. Only in Taiwan could this bird be readily spotted in public parks and forest areas without restriction of time. For us in Malaysian try hard in the northern winter season time

Well, I must be among the lucky one who has pictures of the juvenile. Question is - is the bird started breeding in Malaysia as well? Or does the juvenile migrate?
