Crimson Sunbird

While most Sunbirds have their prefference for food and get associated with flowers having nectar. Somehow could smell the bird out. The Crimson Sunbird is very unlike the other Sunbirds. It is not a regular visitor to those favorite places and are found in isolation. Sometimes in the midst of thick forest, other time in bare leafless branches.

Size & diagnostic markings:- A small bird of 13 cm it has red head, mantle and upper breast. Then an iridesscent green crown and tail. The belly is greyish. Smaller details include a purple malar streak and yellow rump band.

Though caught perched, but each time it was always some diatnce away

We were lucky to have this particular Crimson Sunbird, which broke tradition and remained in the same vicinity for quite a while

As mentioned, this Sunbird too, the pictures were not taken while it was oraging for nectar. This was its rest time or whatever phase. Perched for a good time in open area

Habitats & preferences:- In Malaysia, this is a lowland forest edge bird. 

In Malaysia, where can the bird be found:- The bird though is forest edge but hardly seen, so far seen it along the road forest edge in Lanchang and in Cyberjaya Park beside the lake.
