The Chiling Waterfalls

The  Chilings Waterfalls

Before I start work to re-compose this page on Chiling Waterfalls, I cross checked the internet and to see how the public are accepting this destination which I left behind some 20 years ago. I found the pages on the internet. This destination  was flooded with so many postings. A very popular and commercialized as well. Anyway I have my own agenda for putting up a page. So I keep the write up very brief. So a little bit off track, the dangerous bend and the bridge on the main road at "Chiling"

# 1 The Chiling Bridge

Here a view of the newly re-painted original bridge at one time in the past.

# 2 The Chiling Bridge changed

The present condition of the road and bridge.

# 3 Seated on the new Chiling Bridge

At last, a modern bridge was installed side by side the old one. Most interesting, the sharp bend of the road is still there but much rounded up and not so sharp anymore.

# 4 The Chiling River downstream

For first timer, excitement starts right here! In real life the gorge - where the river flowed far below is quite dramatic. Imagine the height is good enough for bungee jumping! Well, not to mention the roar that is highlighting the ambience

# 5 The official entrance to the Park

A short walk of less than 100 meters walk from the bridge, on the right would be this welcoming sign.  You are in Chiling! Visitors normally had their vehicle parked in the vacant lot further up after this signage on the opposite side of the road.

# 6 Good all weather track

From the "gate", a broad level track hugs and move alongside the ravine, to guide visitors right up to the Park's HQ.

# 7 A small shack for office

There you are! A "Selamat Datang " for you all. If you are sharp enough, you could even see the beginning part to the bridge to bring you across the river [where the flags are]

# 8 Across the Chiling River - 1st time

On the suspension Bridge. So far, everything OK, sort of a Sunday morning walk in the Park.

# 9 Meet The River

After the bridge, real wilderness. have to pass through a short stretch. Narrow path with low ferns on both sides. Just about 100  meters to reach the river

# 10 The Chiling River

The river! still on a down hill rush. The banks on both sides were not always suitable for hiking. Don't think of doing river trekking, it is not feasible. So it is hiking along the banks, both sides alternate and crossing the river a couple of times. More scenes of the river banks here

# 11 Crossing the river

Depth of water at most spots, are not threatening. Only just knee deep or some spots little bit more. For the inexperienced, the current is really powerful ad scary. Of course water is cold.

# 12 Scary but safe.

No worry, it is actually a narrow river and in no time, over to the other side.

# 13 Jungle trekking away from the banks

Then , no more river crossing but a short hike, to circumvent  some river bank boulders

# 14 You are there!

At some point of time, through the foliages, the whole Waterfall is in view!

# 16 Out into the open away from the forest

There you are! The pool in front of the Waterfall - Mission accomplished!

# 17 You want more thrills?

For the Gang-ho type there a steep path just beside the waterfall to do more exploration of the area. Up a steep slope with a trail. Having a squeeze through a wide crack.

# 18 Noises of the roaring water and hiking up beside the Waterfall

Reaching almost the top of the waterfall. Could see the water falling down

# 19 some point look down

Looking down , a bird's eye view the pool of the Waterfall below

# 20 And far beyond down stream

And -  part of the river flowing away from the Waterfall

# 21 Behold! Chiling Waterfall No, 2

Having shown you the secret, now comes the not-so-nice update. Thanks to my buddy Jan, latest news, could be for some time now, this section have been kept out of bound! No entry. Sorry guys & gals!  Just see what you all have missed. The upper Fall! Slightly lower in height but amidst a very scenic spot

# 22 Simply gorgeous llokkimg

Having come so far and almost there. What a pity! Anyway just admire the view that I can show you . Another close-up shot of this beautiful remote Waterfall

# 23 And the Pool

Oh! when one is not allowed in, the pool would look even more tempting. In fact it is! Also as it is away from the main crowd, the place is very exclusive.

# 24 This is conservation area of Kelah breeding project

Anyway, pat yourself that you have made it this far. The place really pristine. So much so you could make souvenir pictures of the "Klah" Fishes managed by the Fishery Department at the Waterfalls

A simple pictorial run through of the hike to Chiling Waterfalls. This is that much I could gather from my arm chair. It looks very straight forward. Nothing like doing it yourself. Unfortunately, many new comer overwhelmed by the sight and the  excitement of the hike, let go their sense to exercise care.

The crowd which also leads to the frequent changes of condition the Forestry Department metered out from time to tome, making planning a bit difficult. Till now not much cganges open on weekends except Public Holidays. Check first before going on the trip. It is definitely an unforgettable trip for City dwellers
