The Jeram Toi Waterfalls

Jeram Toi - An odd name to a Waterfall

The massive Main Range or Banjaran Titiwansa ends with a well known peak Gunong Besar Hantu near Kampong Esok. Then from its slopes, a lower range lingers on. Continues on a south south eastwards spread for another 60 kms. For the start, this low range was made up of an almost level ridge is 200 meter tall and some low peaks, a beautiful paved road made for the radar station runs on it for 16 kilometers. This range ends but quickly joined by another short run which leads to Bukit Rembau [Gunong Datuk] and little bit south, Bukit Tampin.

Jeram Toi waterfall is located at the beginning of the range of Telapa Buruk. the eastern side of the slopes. Very very remote hills but with a prominent history. Just when the World War II was ending in 1945, a RAF B24 Liberator disappeared while dropping supplies in Negeri Sembilan. The plane was never found until in1950, local Orang Asli  reported of sighting the wreckage. Search never followed through until 2009. They found and confirmed the wreckage The 8 men crew put to rest in 2012. Real spooky place, warned my friend who tipped me off when I was first introduced to Telepa Buruk in 2001. Proved to be a very productive destination for birding, but I had 3 separate harrowing experiences on subsequent visits.

Now back to the waterfall. This day, it was weekday so the whole place deserted. We parked the car and walked to the entrance. A police patrol car followed us closely behind. It stopped and we looked at ourselves. Fok was without a face mask. He ran back to the car to have himself validated.

Also the group picture without me as by then the Police had left, no other soul around and we did not have a camera stand.

At last the "star" of the place, the waterfall.

This was once a beautiful picnic spot when we first saw it back in 1995. Pristine and tugged in small forested valley. The  Landscape had not changed since then.

Now with the maze of paved paths concrete edged pools. More rest places and toilets etc, the river looked like a brook running through s concrete jungle

Anyway ignore the infra structures, just look at the view,

A closer look at the main Waterfall

There was now proper stairways to reach places beyond the Main Waterfall and of course better and more waterfalls above. But only for looks and pictures taking. No chance to get near for playing or enjoying the "Jaccuzzi" from the falling waters

One picture showing the Main Waterfall and that on top. To small and lack of details to see clearly

Lucky for us it was week day and we had the whole place to ourselves. On weekends we would be weaving through picnickers, crowds having their meals. Plus the noises etc.

To me personally, the place as I saw it is depressing, a tiny brook flowing through all the concrete structures. So imagine with the unusual crowd, it would not have any scenery - but a large crowd having their daily wash by the waterways.

Many a times, it is with regret that I publicized Waterfalls as fantastic  places to go to getting away from the urban crowd.

Before leaving a few shot shots of the set up and the structures they had installed into this tiny valley or gorge!

Yee the slopes of the valley bared, vegetation selected to rid of that wilderness look and installing a manicured landscape.

Here, the fellows happy having seen a Waterfall and leaving for home.

This is the junction to Telepa Buruk. A good birding destination and also for walking. It is 10 miles each way. Fok!  I promised you the co-ordinates. Here it is -   N 2.84857, E 102.00084

Last word - more juicy story. On the 1st week August 2019, Irish teenager Nora Quoirin went missing from the Resort in Negri Sembilan. Exactly one year now and that resort was located on the western slope of Telapa Buruk
