Monstera Deliciosa

The hobby of doing home gardening is gaining popularity as seen through the internet. More people are getting to plant their own vegetables in their backyard. Then the other group mainly and housewives are decorating their little gardens with ornamental plants.

I and my wife are doing  both interest. In this page I will touch on house plants, specifically the type involving Monstera plants. This plants Monstera Deliciosa which were popular a long time ago has come a long way. Theses days, interest ob this species has switched to the more  exotic Variegated species  with a couple more hybrid species.

Then, for me the question to ask -  what is happening to the old favorites the likes of the Monstera deliciosa? Oh!  it is still seen, though not very much preferred. That's suit me fine! Not to be jiving in with the trendy set to go for the variegated version, I would focus on reviving my old hobby - keeping Monstera deliciosa.

Another idea! Why not make a story about seeing the plant growing up from scratch. So for this page, I start with "History" - my association with this plant long ago.

Monstera deliciosa pix # 1

We started planting Monstera way back in 1969. It was small indoor garden of our rented house and wewere not into the habit of making pictures at the time so no record kept. This picture taken in 1974 when we had settled down in SS 4/9 Can see that the plant then was quite matured

Then we shifted into the present house. The plant followed us of course and this picture was taken in 1979. It was a much taller plant by then

By August 26th of the year 2014, we were still keeping the plant. That also happen to the last picture that I had on record for the plant. Now in 2021, when we remembered that plant, just couldn't recalled why we had and when we discarded this huge plant as junk. Well- not really we wouldn't after having kept it for years. Could have left it in some hidden corner and the plant starved to death without our knowledge.

Sometime in mid-2020

Fast forward, we needed a new plant. Picture here are sapling on display in the nursery in Sungei Buloh p they were all fixed at Rgt 45 per plant. I wouldn't want to pay for that!

After much searching, I found a plant  that they were willing to part for only Rgt 25 and I took it. Did not have that picture too but after months in my garden, that plant looked stunted an not growing at all. Further investigation that plant  was sick plant after a failed attempt in propagation. I took the plant out removed the rotting portion and send it into another round of rehabilitation. Good news It grew and this was the picture.

See here are the baby leaves and I have record of the the process called fenestration which started on the first couple of leaves

In haste I transplanted the recuperating plant onto the ground among a field of scavengers It died on me!!!
