My 1st MGB - March 1980
In the period of 1967/68 I was given the charge of the Sales Division for Morris Vehicle. Among the range of products I handled was the MG marque and MGB comes under my purview. New MGB vehicle was retailed at Rgt8500. Never had the thought of owning one then as it was out of my reach. It only after 10 years that I settled down. Had a proper house and after that I could afford to think about buying "toys" So I bought this MGB. It was rotting away in the parking lot of a Shell Station for Rgt10K a premium for a car over 15 years old My First MGB pix # 1 The looks of the cockpit! I still couldn't figure out why an alternative car number appeared in the picture
My First MGB pix # 2 Brought the car home, stripped it down and then carefully stripped its paint too. It had accumulated a thick coat of putty. Made good all the running parts, fitted it with new upholstery. The car completed and in good running conditions. This is a picture of the engine compartment. Actually the body was fairly rusted.
My First MGB pix # 3 The car in our drive way where we carried out the job of grinding and sanding the paints down
My First MGB pix # 4 Now the results and my triumph of owning my own MGB at last. Years of waiting.
My First MGB pix # 5 It was a period
that work load was also heavy in the factory There was no time
for personal hobby and relaxation All I could do was to bring
the family for spins in the neighborhood or to the Lake Gardens
for pictures. Finally to mark my dreams came true I took the car
and cars to to the iconic Parliament House to stamp the historic
moments
My First MGB pix # 6 More picture of the car around the housing area.
My First MGB pix # 7 This is one picture taken on a weekend in the KL Lake Garden. Look at the wheel, something is not complete about a MGB - missing the stylish wire wheels.
My First MGB pix # 8 At that time, my other run around car was a Mitsubishi Colt Celeste. The modern Sports car with the classic side by side.
Having satisfied one thirst - the drawback for this MGB was its lack of the iconic wire wheels A colleague from the dealership loved the car and I gave the car to him for Rgt 8,500 suffering a loss. That ended my MGB dream
