In 1991, I began my personal journey with karaoke singing when I got my first karaoke machine. At that time, karaoke hadn’t yet become widely popular, and it took a while for the trend to catch on. It wasn't until 2003 that karaoke materials, specifically LaserDiscs (LDs), started arriving in Malaysia. This opened up a new avenue for us, as we began visiting various karaoke venues to sing in public and enjoy ourselves. Over time, I gradually built up my collection of soundtracks.

By 2010, karaoke competitions began gaining traction, and we became more involved. Along with George, Stanley, Leong, Henry, and myself, we started searching for a permanent meeting spot where we could gather with familiar faces—a place we could call our "joint." Eventually, we found Jenny's Place in Subang Jaya, a small and cozy venue where we felt at home. After about a year, the Sungei Way School Alumni introduced karaoke services in their hall, and we relocated there.

Our journey was marked by a significant moment—a fuzzy picture taken during our last visit to Jenny’s Place. That photo is especially important because it captures the end of an era, as Jenny’s Place eventually closed down. I’ve since heard that Jenny, too, now moves around, visiting the various karaoke outlets in town.
