Bukit Lanjan - our paradise lost

Early this year 2021, my wifely accidentally dropped my external hard disc. With that mistake, the disc went kaput. With great difficulties, I managed to get some one to launched the rescue operation. Thanks goodness! part of the lost data were recovered.

Then one day, Jan, my buddy asked me to show him my old collection of pictures from Bukit Lanjan. I checked, I couldn't find record of pictures from the salvaged disc. Well, only lately, after more than a month, I found out that computer had calculated I lost 80,642 pictures. That explained, I shouldn't place much hope on my old archive

After a week of moaning my loss, a bright idea came up! Why don't I looked elsewhere? Yes, when Multiply, another Free platform decided to close shop, I down loaded my archive. Perhaps Bukit Lanjan was one of the stories I have written before. Hey presto! I found it.

These collection of pictures I had posted up were composed and posted over a period of months. I have chosen to retain the original size of many pictures and then sizing down several of them which were too large to fit this page. Reason - I could come up with a comprehensible story.

These happenings depicted in the pictures took place around 2005/2006 period. The characters you see in this pictures are members of the core group of the "Kiara Bunch". Not half naked savages.

Mustapha Kamal, MK in short bought over the whole hill - Bukit Lanjan, a public Park that housed the Telecom towers for PJ. This hill together with Bukit Kiara had served as our daily hiking trails. For me, one extra. This place is one of my favorite birding spots. In late October and early November, each year, I would keep vigil at the summit from 6.30pm onwards watching Raptors descending for the evening halts.

When MK's house was under construction, from the layout of the gate at the entrance, we knew it was a matter of time that this public road would be privately taken over and we would loose its use.. Hence, this series of pictures were taken.

True enough! the day came. we were no longer allowed to enter what was once a public road. Picture taken, sadly lost the rfid data, i.e. the date of that fateful day.

1. Here is the first picture - Gate closed

2. From that intro - back to those original times of walking. A lone straggler.

3. We passed the 3/4 mark, MK's house was under construction. So, the period of our story stretched from the time of this picture to the time when the first picture was taken.

4. After having walked past the building site and time for the last inclined slope.

5. Right on top of the hill, a nostalgic place! The Trigonometry station! In other mountains, we would have to go to extreme length to be able to make a picture with this Icon

6. There you are! Our hero on top of a summit of a Hill.

7. Looking down into the fenced up compound of Telecom Malaysia

8. So we were not only walking up the hill, but we were also mooching around the area. We found chestnut?

9. Just wondering which tree is a chestnut tree?

10. So this is Chestnut! I thought the fruits are all from China.

11. So excited like school boys, here is a larger picture/

12. Then what are these? Found in the same vicinity.

13. We had to walk along the outer side of the fencing for the Telecom Tower to explore the area.

14. The pictures now are those reduced in size. Nearing the ending days for our visit to this hilltop area, these panoramic pictures were deliberately collected as souvenirs.

15. All these where you look are different parts or Sri Damansara

16. There were times we entered the compound of MK's house under construction for our own "looking around"

17. A picture! We were there!

18. Cannot escape offering our comments, what ever they were.

19. One for the Album! Ha Ha! How true now.

20. Then this sign, meant for the Orang Asli. Their home ground!  Their livelihood! To stop their income? Or to convince them that things are no longer the same as before.

21. We supported the Orang Asli. At the time these pictures were taken, we were still allowed to take the car up. The Durian seller was stationed near the trees, half the way up, just before MK's house

22. Very nostalgic scenes for all of us.

23. Of course, the fruit were sold at  a VFM price. the Kiara Bunch motto.

24. Well, I am glad that I have got this series out. There are a long list of other trips waiting to be processed by me. Stay in touch.
