The capital of the Sukhothai kingdom is from the 14th century era. This historical park is absolutely enormous! The entire Sukhothai Historical Park covers an area of about 70 sq km and contains more than 190 historical ruins. very widespread site

Inside the city wall and moat, Wat Mahathat stands at its epic centre, as the spiritual centre of the kingdom. The royal palace (now collapsed) lies to its northwest. To the city’s immediate north is a small contained area, housing Wat Phra Pai Luang, believed to be the original foundation site of the Sukhothai Kingdom. Strolling through the grounds of the historical park, you will encounter at least three architectural styles.

The centre of attraction, where we and all tourist go are the ruins of royal palaces, Buddhist temples, the city gates, walls, moats and the water dyke control system of ancient Sukhothai,

Today, the tourist Park itself is lovely although before it was mostly bicyclists on the grounds. Now they are renting cars to people . Other vehicles I saw were tuk tuks , trams and even a green & white taxi . The Park itself is gorgeous and well maintained. One really feels the History from a different era . For the best photo ops without crowds, go early -
although with Covid, the crowds have disappeared.

We, like most people to this site had only a passing interest on Architecture, archaeology and history of Thailand. Just being here to have our pictures recorded with the show piece of this notable place
