Satun The Thale Ban National Park Thale Ban National Park is located a heavily forested area south of the Banthat Mountains in southern Thai land Sa This Park was established on 27 October 1960. It covers an area of 196 sq kilometers of Khuan Don and Mueang Satun District. The nearest town to the Park is Satun Town in the west of the Park about 30 kilometer away. This border region is made up of limestone's hills. With earth movements long ago a natural dams was built in creating a natural lakes with lots of vegetation submerged. The Park by now was fairly developed: there are bungalows to stay in, there's a restaurant, and a visitor's centre. They The charges - an entry fee for foreigners: 200 baht. There were no tourist brochures in English. Most Leaflets and information boards are all in Thai, except for the board at the start of the jungle trail in English. Rangers managing the Thale Ban National Park working very hard to promote this picturesque freshwater lake and other natural beauties, which have remained protected from modern development. See! the Thale Ban National Park Chief Jeven had a group photo with us. He claimed that the 125-rai lake located in the middle of the valley of Kuan district was believed to be created after the ground subsided. Run off from natural water sources then flooded the valley over a period of time. In addition to the greenery, hundreds of glandular frogs can also be seen here. There is a boardwalk and a paved pathway along the lake. It's nice, but not very long. And there's a jungle trail which is also short (less than one km I think) but good for getting that jungle feeling :- It's easy enough, except for one steep part which was badly eroded, and required some hanging on to tree roots to negotiate it. Some figures claimed by the Park. There were 282 species of birds recorded, 40 reptiles and 20 amphibians. That explain why this page had pictures of the Park and not birds.
