Phattalung The Thale-Noi Waterfowl Park There are 3 lakes in this area. 1]Thale Luang - 78,280 ha, 2]Thale Sap Songkla -17,600ha and the smallest 3]Thale Noi 2,800ha. This smallest Lake Thale Noi - measuring around 5 km wide and 6 km long is the only lake filled with fresh water. Its average depth is 1.25 metres. Both Thale Noi and Thale Luang has been designated as areas for Waterfowls Protection. The Khuan Khi Sian Peat Swamp in the area around Thale Noi or Noi Lake is the first UN Ramsar site of Thailand. Also designated as a non-hunting area on 18 February 1975. Most parts of the Thale Noi conservation area are lakeside plains. They made up of rice fields, peat swamp forest, and grasslands. Flora found here are aquatic plants growing on the lake surface, such as Water Hyacinth, Kong tree (Hanguana malayana), pale Yellow-spiked Rush, Lotus, and floating plants. The Fauna inhabiting lake area comprises of 287 species of wetlands birds, 26 species of reptiles, and 6 species of mammals. The Wetland birds found here are both resident and migratory. A sample Bird List:- more commonly seen are Painted stork, Black-headed Ibis, Grey Heron, Purple Heron, Little Cormorant, Black-crowned Night-Heron, etc. Interesting sights that the Thale Noi Wetland Birds Sanctuary can boast about:- are the Thale Noi Palace - sea of blooming lotus in the morning, flocks of waterfowls, the nesting and egg-laying grounds of waterfowls at Ao Mo and those at Khuan Thale Mong, Khuan Khi Sian Ranger Station, and the Sala Nang Riam view point
