Teluk Bahang Dam
Teluk Bahang Dam - Penang 26th, April 1997 Way back in 1956 when the Ayer Itam Dam was completed I was too young to understand whatever need to be understood. The Ayer Itam Dam when completed naturally restricted the water flowing down stream. This was where my playground "Batu Lubang". That was the first time I learnt about Dams and its effects This time around came another opportunity for me to see a dam being constructed. It was way back in 1993 that the plans to construct the Teluk Bahang was activated. Years passed. It was not until April 1997 I caught the chance to check on its progress. So was this series of pictures of me, my group roaming the valley of the dam under construction. Now, in hind sight I was surprised how I got free access to roam the whole dam site while under construction. Later in 1999, the Sungei Selangor also took away my playground on the Pertak River. Unlike the Teluk Bahang Dam, the work site was boarded off. The work ground was totally out of bound. I could only do a photographic record from afar #1 - Clearing of the excess earth. Doing a good job to get the bottom of the Dam cleared of debrises
#2 - This was the original road. At this point, nearing the Dam wall, the old road itself had descended from the hills
#3 - One for the Album This picture is quite sharp with better details. Background distorted
#4 - How the old road winded through the Valley slopes The original road was located right in the center of the Dam when flooded!
#5 - Another part of the old road on higher elevation The extend the new dam covers included part of the hill slope. Here the old road on higher ground by the hillside
#6 - The old road & Valley floor This is the front portion of the dam as seen on the right and its dry bed in the valley
#7 - The newly constructed road that hugs that edge of Dam The dam completed but yet unturfted. Still on relatively hiigh ground. Could see the Teluk Bahang Bay.
#8 - One for the album Picture highly magnified
#9 - Another one from the Valley floor Yes, taken from some distamce away
#10 - Same scene as the picture above
#11 - Color of water with traces of metal Not sure whether an exaggeration or distortion in color
#12 - Closer Now! Could see better
17th, February 2021 #13 - Current round the Dam Road Down from the hillside - moving on level ground towards the Dam
#14- Dam on the left edge Reached the Dam
#15 - Official Signage On the base upon approaching the dam coming from Teluk Bahang
#16 - Steps to ascend from the base, For strong legged visitor, who wish for a view point on top.
This is another special page to me, while it may be a dry topic to many. With foresight then in 1997, I made the effort to have history recorded. Now I could seat back to enjoy seeing the pictures
