Keong Kee "double-boiled" herbal soup
Keong Kee has been acknowledged as the leading stall in serving Double boiled soup. Problem is that the stall is in heart of Chinatown Kuala Lumpur. Going there is a hassle. Second, the shop opens for diner! Actually who would go to Kuala Lumpur at night? Just for dinner? No way. So even though it is a "must try" outlet we deferred making that trip. Tonight we ran out of ideas. I was in the field looking for birds and by 5.30pm. Lighting getting poor, time to close shop and head for Kuala Lumpur. Though started to rain, traffic along Federal Highway and all the way Lonnie Road was bumper to bumper. But in no time after that squeeze along Jalan Imbi we reached that destination Pix No 1 Right at the corner, directly opposite Shaw Parade. They actually owned a corner lot coffee shop but preferred to capitalised on this seasoned spot where the business boomed.
Pix No.2 left side- menu if you can read chinese. Here are 5 choices of soup.
Pix no, 3 Right side more choices. Another 5 choices of soup. This day they only had a total of 4 soup from the spread of 10 as advertised.
Pix no,4 The numbers of steam chambers, they had. For keeping the food warm. Food were prepared and scuttled from some where near by
Pix no,5 Stall it was manned by 3 old timers Very friendly guys! Looks very authentic.
Pix no,6 Every dish sounded tempting. Though we may not be able to eat them, get them packaged and kept in the fridge.
Pix no, 7 They had settled on their routine. No rushing and no shouting. Food served on a nice peaceful pace.
Pix no,8. From the looks the chicken legs must have tasted good. Actually, the best that I have tasted. Whatever was left hanging on the bones of the chicken legs simply melts in the mouth. The accompanying mushroom were so thick we had to sliced them, not a mouth full for chewing. Negative part, the chicken legs were so highly stewed that the stirring when retrieving had dislodged a fair bit of important contents from the bones.
Pix no,9 their signature dish. Absolutely fascinating. the amount of herbs left as residue inside each serving is unbelievable.
Pix no,10 Now look carefully at the size of the bowl. each serving is now Rgt8 flat rate.
Pix no,11 A look at business from afar
Pix no,12 Now those old fellas were busy with something else.
Pix no,13 Finally a look at the dining area. Picture taken at 6.30 pm, perhaps not the peak time!
We did not have our dinner there. We brought the food home. Properly transfered to our own plates and bowl that serving for those prices was generous. I would rate it as VFM, whatever that means?
