Birds in my garden - White-throated Kingfisher

The white throated or sometimes misquoted as a white breasted Kingfisher is a Tree Kingfisher. Meaning contrary to what its name implies, this Kingfisher do not depends on fish as it main diet. It is more of a raptor going after land crawlies. Of course, it is seen more often along water ways, not for the fishes but more for creatures crawling to the water edges for their food.

As for the why this forest edge bird is coming to an urban area, I suppose its food. We do have crawlies in our park too, though not that there are  waterways around. In places with houses, like mine, I often seen the bird on top of the roof. Perched on TV aerials and along electric wire. Again those days with the Matoa tree I had better chance of seeing it
For some time now, this was no longer visiting places nearby my house

This one, on the main power supply line right in front of my house.

This one, looking for shade. A breather.

-

No food for you here!

-

Very high up, calling endlessly for a long time in the morning. Looking for its mate.

-

Same bird, same occasion, but giving me another angle to record

-

Another time, now  a pair. Mooching around my place.

This one, on the main power supply line right in front of my house. Bottom - these birds looks so domesticated.

This White throated kingfisher is a beautiful bird. Very alert and disciplined, keeping it posture upright and facing the appropriate direction. So much so, the posture, it project an image of a dark maroon bird with white throat when seen. Other time, when we met this kingfisher, and so happens that the back is facing us, an entirely blue bird. To me, this is the most welcome bird that is reasonably common in the park. Friendly, often perched low.

Yeah! back to the passers-by

Oh! I didn't know that I have collected so much close up shots of those visiting me.

This picture taken of another time another Kingfisher coming. Could be the same regular visitor?

Making such picture with the bird real close -mean this bird was resting and undisturbed of my proximity.

I trusted them as the Kingfisher was not after my fishes. The Mynas, Bulbuls and Orioles were! Pretending to be washing up, then perched and wait for the fishes to come out of hiding.

.

Oh! this one, pair almost helped me to illustrate my point of the birds looking entirely different - front and back view.

Instead they turned, and had 2 pairs of eyes watching me while I took their pictures

Last, a shot standing just below the bird.

As I was telling my buddy, a couple of days back, I would never get tired of making pictures of this Kingfishers. Such willing models. Beautiful coloring. Most of all, I think I love them because I get good pictures from them
